You will be required to provide a 3 page PDF that provides a summary overview of your project. Avoid jargon and acronyms that are used only in your specific field.

What do you want to do with your technology? (2 pages) When describing your technical vision, please include information on the following:

• Vision: Describe the new science or engineering behind the core innovation.
• You vs state of the art: How is it done today and what is new in your approach?
• Market Viability: Will you create value in a marketplace? How much will it cost and who will be the customer?
• Milestones and Risks: What are the mid-term and final “exams” to check for success? What are the technology and market risks? How will you mitigate the risks?
• Social Impact: How does your technology contribute to a better world? Who will be impacted and at what scale?

What is your technology? (1 page) When describing your technology, please include the following:

• Describe the technical details of the concept you want to pursue.
• Include the information that will best convey your technical innovation: text, diagrams, equations, photos, analysis, references, you name it.
• Include pictures/diagrams showing the broader systems or process in which your innovation will be used, if applicable. We understand you still have more science to prove out.

You can reference publications and include them in an optional “Supporting Documentation” document.

Technical Reality Deck

You will be required to provide a 3-4 slide deck with technical details describing the current status of your project.We're looking for concrete, detailed information on your project to complement the higher level vision provided in the previous written answers. Feel free to use technical jargon and other shorthand to help you meet the slide limits, if needed.

We recommend the following structure:

• Technical details (1-2 slides)
• Present the technical details of your proposed project that convey the current status of the technology. We want to know what you have actually accomplished.
• Include the information that will best convey the current status of your technical innovation, such as diagrams, equations, graphs, photos, analyses, references, text, etc.
• Progress on first product and potential business model (1 slide)

• Describe what you have learned pertinent to your first product(s) and potential business model(s) to monetize your technology.

• Two year work plan (1 slide)
• Present your proposed two year work plan during the fellowship to progress from your current status (provided in the earlier slides) toward the technical vision you shared in the previous document.

Video Demonstration

Record a 60 second video that demonstrates the proof of concept of your technology or otherwise shows why you believe your concept will work. This can be a short demonstration of your prototype, a quick overview of test data, a flow diagram, simulation results, etc. This video MUST be shot as one continuous take without editing and less than 60 seconds long. Narration is optional and can be done by you or your co-applicant, but must be done as part of the live video.

You will also be asked to provide a short written explanation of what you are showing us in your video.

You (and your co-applicant if relevant) will be asked to answer several personal questions. Each is limited to 250 words:

• Tell us about your personal journey that led you to start a company. What were the key moments that led you here, whether or not you'd have called yourself an "entrepreneur" at the time?
  
  
• Tell us about a time you needed a resource you didn't have access to, and how you actually got it.
  
  
• Name one thing about leading a company that you're currently unprepared for and honestly a little afraid of. Why?
  
  
• Activate is a community that continues to grow & improve with each fellow. Describe a specific way you've contributed to a community in the past. How would you expect to contribute to the Activate community?
  
  
• (If you are applying with a co-applicant) Please describe how you met your co-founder and how long you’ve worked together on this project or others.

Up to two co-applicants may apply together for the same project. However, we only provide fellowship funding to one individual per project (the Principal applicant). Although co-applicants are unfunded, they become Activate Affiliate Fellows with all of the same access benefits and participation expectations.

Both the Principal and Co-Applicant must be able to commit to working full-time for their company by the time the fellowship begins. If your cofounder is unable to commit to this, they should not apply as a co-applicant.

Choosing who is Principal Applicant

• The Principal Applicant needs to meet 100% of our eligibility requirements. Co-applicants are preferred to meet all eligibility requirements, but rare exceptions may be made for co-applicants with very close to or equivalent qualifications.
  
  
• If both individuals are equal fits, we recommend you select as Principal the individual who most wants to participate in the fellowship education and community.
  
  
• The Principal applicant is the individual who begins the application and optionally adds a co-applicant as a collaborator to the application. You cannot swap the Principal and co-applicants in the application platform yourself, and co-applicants may not be added after the application deadline.
