Technology

Critical Need

Current Counter-UAS systems struggle to reliably detect and classify small drones in cluttered, low-visibility, and RF-denied environments while operating with low latency and minimal processing burden. Many existing solutions rely heavily on radar, RF, and imaging systems that generate high data loads, suffer from false positives, or fail against low-signature and autonomous threats. As drones become more accessible and sophisticated, there is a growing need for scalable sensing technologies that can rapidly identify intent, track threats while mobile, and integrate into layered defense architectures. Kytyra addresses this gap through real-time waveform sensing and edge-based machine learning.

Technology Vision

Kytyra is the drone detection and classification layer for next-generation Counter-UAS. We engineer low-latency sensors that overcome environmental and operational limitations of existing technologies. Unlike traditional EO/IR and LiDAR systems that generate data-heavy images, Kytyra captures unique light waveforms processed entirely on the edge in milliseconds. This delivers real-time precision geolocation, speed, and direction, independent of RF signatures. Utilizing advanced machine learning, Kytyra filters out clutter while rapidly classifying flight patterns and behaviors over time and space, providing the crucial context needed to accurately identify intent and respond to true threats with unprecedented speed and precision.

Potential for Impact

Kytyra strengthens airspace security by enabling faster, more accurate recognition of aerial threats in complex environments. Our low-latency sensing systems operate independently of RF signatures and can function in cluttered urban areas, contested environments, and while mobile. By improving real-time threat awareness and reducing false positives, Kytyra can help protect military personnel, critical infrastructure, transportation hubs, and public spaces. The same core sensing and machine learning technologies also have broader applications in autonomous systems, perimeter security, and intelligent environmental monitoring.
