Josh Martin

Josh Martin (he/him) is the managing director of Activate Boston, where he supports the next generation of hard-tech founders in translating breakthrough science into world-changing companies. He brings firsthand founder experience as co-founder and former CEO of Fortify, an additive manufacturing company backed by Accel, Prelude, Cota Capital, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon Ventures—the first company to count both defense primes as investors. Under his leadership, Fortify raised over $40M, shipped products to customers worldwide, and formed key industrial partnerships with Primes and Tier 1 suppliers in aerospace and defense. A Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and NSF Graduate Research Fellow, Martin has published research in Nature, Advanced Materials, and Soft Matter. He holds a Ph.D. in materials science from Northeastern University and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Delaware.
