Fellows

Richard May

Richard May is the co-founder of Every Electric Inc. He and co-founder Andrew Wang began their journey at Tesla, where they validated the Model 3 cell chemistry. May holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from Caltech and a Ph.D. from Columbia University, where he also completed a postdoctoral appointment. At Columbia, he led diverse initiatives across battery chemistry, recycling, and energy supply chains. Together with Wang, he co-developed a new business model for rapidly deployed, plug-in battery virtual power plants to provide grid services.

Andrew Wang

Andrew Wang is co-founder and CEO of Every Electric, a New York-based startup drop-shipping grid flexibility & affordability at scale through simple, very distributed energy storage. In partnership with Con Edison, Every Electric operates the largest A/C-powerbank virtual power plant in New York City. Andrew previously co-founded Intercalation Station, a widely used battery community platform for news, consulting, & investment. He was postdoctoral scientist with the Columbia Electrochemical Energy Center and Climate School, holds a DPhil in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

The grid faces a "last mile" bottleneck where rapid load growth meets renewable volatility. This imbalance drives reliance on carbon-intensive peaker plants, increasing electricity costs and blackout risks. Because traditional storage is slow and expensive to deploy, a new paradigm is required. Resilience depends on flexible, distributed storage that can be rapidly aggregated to support the grid at scale.

Our proprietary software detects and forecasts loads, peaking, and power quality instabilities to inform adaptive battery control algorithms. This plug-and-play hardware deploys simply, allowing any user to instantly install energy storage that supports the grid.
