The Power of Mentorship: Meet Activate’s Managing Directors

Activate’s managing directors are the pillars of each community. They provide the guidance, experience, and unbiased direction that allow Activate Fellows to be at the helm of their company’s trajectory with unparalleled support.

Get to know one of Activate’s managing directors, Jeremy Pitts on his:

  • journey as a former entrepreneur,

  • how MDs build & lead their communities,

  • how this unique mentorship adds value to the Activate Fellowship,

  • and find out what's going on in the world of innovative entrepreneurship.

Jeremy brings nearly 20 years of experience in energy and sustainability to his role as managing director of the Activate Houston Community. Most recently, he spent more than a decade as CTO at a startup, where he developed technology that could eliminate wellhead methane emissions from legacy oil and gas assets. Previously, Pitts co-founded Greentown Labs in Boston. He also worked at a solar startup, where he designed a single-axis solar tracker that was later sold as one of the earliest exits in the solar industry. Pitts holds an M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management, an M.S. in mechanical engineering from MIT, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Caltech.

Activate transforms scientists and engineers into founders. The two-year Activate Fellowship provides early-stage science entrepreneurs with funding, technical resources, and unparalleled support from a network of scientists, engineers, technologists, and fellow entrepreneurs.
