TECHNOLOGY

Critical Need
Over 50 percent of all synthetic fertilizer applied globally is wasted. It ultimately leeches into waterways, pollutes ecosystems, and emits millions of tons of greenhouse gases—primarily nitrous oxide, which is 300 times more potent than CO₂. Farmers, especially those with limited resources, lack affordable tools to know exactly when and how much to fertilize. As a result, they end up wasting valuable inputs, which results in unnecessary fertilizer costs, reduced crop yields, and widespread environmental damage due to nutrient runoff. There is an urgent need for accessible, data-driven insights that help growers optimize fertilizer use while protecting natural ecosystems.

Technology Vision
PAGE Technologies is addressing the fertilizer inefficiency problem with a digital platform built around printed, multi-signal IoT sensors and advanced analytics. Unlike current methods to extract chemical information from the environemnt—which are often expensive, bulky, difficult to deploy, or fail to provide real-time data—PAGE’s sensors are lightweight, affordable, and easy to distribute. They measure key parameters like pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, and levels of specific nutrients such as nitrate, ammonium, and potassium.

Potential for Impact
PAGE Technologies' monitoring system enables high-resolution data capture across large agricultural areas. This empowers land and water managers to make informed decisions that reduce waste, cut labor costs, and improve productivity. By providing precise insights into environmental conditions, PAGE’s digital platform can significantly reduce fertilizer use, minimizing environmental degradation while promoting climate resilience and food security.
